Grandparents, please! Just because a child demands a certain cereal doesn’t mean it is good for them or you should buy it. If they whined for cocaine, would you give that to them too? Hopefully not! As grandparents, we must encourage children in the way they should go in all their spiritual, mental, and physical endeavors.
While I agree and practice most of this myself it is a little heavy to lay on grandchildren we only get to see a couple of weeks per year. I am in favor of sitting down to any breakfast that their parents approve if and sharing that precious time with them. Not knocking the advice..just saying.
No offense taken. “The soft tone of one’s voice speaks volumes.” Never would I recommend going into a parent’s home and antagonistically telling a parent how to raise their children. That’s not Godly. Speaking the truth in love, however, is. If you noticed the child consuming Skittles, wouldn’t you warn the parent about the possibility of fentanyl contamination? Or would you simply believe, “meh, that’s a parental judgment?”
God allows us choices in life. It’s expressed in 1 Corinthians 10:23. However, allowing children to consistently consume sugary cereal, caffeinated sodas, donuts, cookies, French fries, and fast foods EVERY day, does nothing to enhance the Holy Spirit within them, nor is it loving. It sets up children for a habitual lifetime of unhealthy addiction and heartache. As a counselor, I provide choices, but only the individual can choose the path they accept. I encourage a Godly Lifestyle. Thank you for your comment.
