Andy, on his Linked-In account, I see that Mark Davis Pickup states that he’s a “born-again-Bible-believing-waiting-for-Jesus-evangelical-Catholic.”
The Roman Catholic church teaches a gospel of salvation by sacramental grace and merit. Bible Christianity teaches the genuine Good News! Gospel of salvation by God’s grace alone, through faith alone, in Jesus Christ alone. The two gospels are distinctly different and irreconcilable. Religious feelings and sentiments aside, we must adhere to doctrinal truth and not yoke with propagators of false gospels.
Hi Tom! Thanks for reading CGM! I am in full agreement with your statement of faith in the gospel truth as compaired with Catholicism. The purpose of CGM is to encourage and to teach the gospel. While it is not for me to judge Mark’s salvation, I want to keep this site contorversy free. Or salvation “is” indeed through grace alone and through faith alone in Jesus Christ, and not merit. We have many submissions to CGM and it is hard to read and catch everything. I appreciate your notifying me of this oversight. I depend on people like you to help keep CGM on track with presenting the Gospel. Please pray for us as we endeavor to encourage and teach men of God. God Bless!
Thanks, Andy. I appreciate your response.
Some may claim that Roman Catholicism also teaches the genuine Gospel, but we refer to official RC teaching in their catechism:
“Moved by the Holy Spirit and by charity, we can then merit for ourselves and for others the graces needed for our sanctification, for the increase of grace and charity, and for the attainment of eternal life.”
CCC, para. 2010.
